If I could describe Tortuga Music Festival in one word.... it would be AMAZING. For those of you who may be wondering, Tortuga was held this year from April 11-12 at Fort Lauderdale Beach in Florida. It's a country music festival and the line up included: Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Jake Owen, Chase Rice, Sam Hunt, Dylan Scott, Maddie & Tae, David Nail, Josh Turner, The Band Perry, and more!
I don't think it's possible for me to fit my experience in one blog post... so here's my recap of day one.
We walked a half hour down the gorgeous boardwalk in Fort Lauderdale, down the beautiful A1A. Of course we had to make a pit stop at Starbucks for a green tea lemonade. I can never turn down one! Then we proceeded to make our way to the registration on the beach for Tortuga. Registration was supposed to open a half hour before we arrived. When we arrived, it still was not open. That was frustrating, because as you can imagine, it was quite toasty waiting in line a the beach. However after about 15 minutes, it opened! Once it was open, it was a smooth process getting into the festival.
The first day was kind of hectic. I had no idea what to expect. I was still adjusting to the Florida heat so I drank 7 water bottles that day. I wanted to make sure I stayed hydrated and kept cool because I did not want to get heat exhaustion. Although it was really hot, the cool breeze felt wonderful at night during the shows.
The festival was not just about music, a main focus of Tortuga is ocean conservation. When I was little, I wanted to be a marine biologist. I loved learning about dolphins, manatees and the ocean. Rock the Ocean was a main sponsor of the event and they had displays all around the festival. It was great to know that a portion of my ticket went to support Rock the Ocean.
Back to the music. Day one we started off with seeing David Nail then we saw Trace Adkins, Josh Turner, Jake Owen and Kenny Chesney.
Here's a video that has a few clips from Tortuga:
Jake Owen was my favorite of the day. At first I didn't recognize him with short hair! He really knows how to interact with the crowd.
Day One was great and it was so surreal to be at the festival. Being able to listen to some of my favorite country artists on the beach was a dream.
Have you ever been to a music festival? Let me know which one in the comments!
